Homewares That Don’t Cost the Earth by Nkuku

by Julieta Lucca

Nkuku is a homewares company working together with artisans around the world to create beautiful and timeless handmade lifestyle products.

They not only pride themselves in being Fair Trade but they champion the use of traditional skills and natural materials.

Perhaps what we love the most about Nkuku is their values. I don’t know about you but I like knowing that by purchasing certain goods I’m contributing to a greater good.

Sustainability

All the products sold in Nkuku are made using either natural or recycled materials through sustainable methods of productions. This means that many of their products are handmade using waste leftover from other industries, like cotton from discarded t-shirts, allowing for the creation of stunning products that don’t cost the earth. Some of the materials Nkuku products are made of include: Jute, Hemp, Recycled Glass, Rattan, Mango Wood, Ceramic, Leather and Recycled Metal.

Fair Trade

“Trading fairly provides these artisans with an opportunity to build a future. It helps businesses develop and creates sustainable employment.” – Nkuku

Why we love them...

Have you ever stopped for a second and questioned how your actions and most importantly your purchases affect our planet? As I grow older, I have come to understand that what I buy and more importantly what I don’t buy, affect not only businesses but people.

How can we support the causes and values we identify with through the things we buy? When you buy Fair Trade or Sustainable products or produce, you are supporting that cause and you are strengthening that business’ purpose. Think about it like casting a vote. Every time you buy something that has been sourced or produced with the Environment’s well-being in mind, you are voting for better practices, better living wages for artisans and small business owners, and a better Earth.
