Food in London

Coffee Shops

When it comes to coffee breaks, you’ll be spoilt for choice in London. There’s something for everyone, whether you are into artisan coffee or just something quick to go. Coffee in London can be quite a commodity, speak with any local and they will tell you it probably accounts for quite a chunk of their salaries. For a good coffee on the go, visit Monmouth Coffee (Covent Garden & Borough Market) and for the best cappuccino in London go to Granger & Co (Notting Hill & Clerkenwell) perfect to wash down their pancakes.

Relaxed Lunch Spots

One thing’s for sure and that is the fact that you can find literally anything you want when it comes to food. In the past five years, the city has been bursting with new restaurant openings, from gourmet to experimental cuisines and everything in between. The London culinary scene does nothing but constantly amaze and surprise, there’s always a new restaurant opening and places to try. Nonetheless, if you happen to be staying at an apart-hotel and want to keep food costs down, feel free to wander around the most amazing food markets this city has to offer, try new ingredients and make yourself at home.

Some of my favourite restaurants are:

The Breakfast Club

Ever since I came across The Breakfast Club, it’s been my go to place when I’m feeling like having some good American inspired food. Their pancakes are a must-try and so it’s the “When Haloumi Met Salad Wrap”. They offer the most delicious and decadent selection of American classics, plus the amazing decor inside transports you back to the 90s.

Honest Burgers

I’ve been recommending Honest Burgers to everyone I know since they opened their Soho branch. The question is how can someone make such good burgers? And don’t forget the fries because they are so good they could almost steal the show. But no. These perfectly-sized bundles of joy are heavenly. You can thank me later.

Pizza Pilgrims

Pizza is quite high in my food pyramid. The problem is – you can either get take out, which probably doesn’t taste as good and it’s not that good for you, you can make it yourself or you can go out. As far as pizza goes, Pizza Pilgrims ticks all the boxes for me. Fast, Extremely Tasty and Affordable. Next time you are thinking of pizza, think of the Pilgrims!

Granger & Co

As far as brunches go in London, Granger & Co has the best scrambled eggs on toast. Their cappuccino is THE BEST in the city and let’s not forget their hotcakes (pancakes) with honeycomb and banana. Gorgeous.

Cafe Pistou

This is my favourite French-inspired restaurant in London. Tucked in a corner of Exmouth Market, dining at Cafe Pistou feels like you are in Paris. Surrounded by beautiful marble tables and mid-century modern chairs. This cafe is so full of personality! The service is great and in the summer you can enjoy lunch outside, under a massive and beautiful tree. The Fig and Goat’s cheese salad is to die for and so is the Strawberry and Basil Fizz.

Food Markets and Sweet Treats

Food markets are by far one of the best things that London has to offer. When it comes to fresh produce and street food, you won’t find anything better. If you only have time to visit one food market, make it the Borough Market, it’s an amazing experience. Just don’t go on a Saturday because it’s unbearably busy. If you can squeeze another one in, make it the Brixton Village Market.

You may also find yourself walking around the city and suddenly feel this urge to treat yourself to the most delicious piece of cake ever. London tends to have that effect on people. Don’t fret, there’s basically a cupcake in every corner. Some of my favourite spots for a nice sweet pick-me-up are:

Rinkoff Bakery – for the tastiest crodoughs in town

Peyton & Byrne – for classy and traditional pastries

Crumbs & Doilies – for indulgent and just pure amazing treats

Lily Vanilli – for mind-blowing and food-coma inducing goods
