Mojito Three Ways with Papagayo Organic Rum

Three ways to drink Mojito, three excuses to pick up a bottle of Rum on your way home.

I’m pretty sure I was a bartender in my previous life. I’m not a heavy drinker but I like my spirits, especially tequila. There’s nothing better than experimenting with flavours to discover another great way to enjoy your favourite drink.

We choose to use Papagayo Organic Rum because it’s a single-estate rum crafted and distilled using traditional methods in Paraguay. Papagayo uses organic cane sugar which is grown free from pesticides, chemicals or fertilizers.

Classic Mojito

🕑 5 minutes

  • serves 1
  • 50ml Papagayo Organic Rum
  • 12 Mint Leaves
  • 2 Lime Wedges
  • 2 tsp Agave Nectar / Simple Syrup
  • Splash of Sparkling Water
  • Crushed Ice

– Place the mint, lime wedges and agave in a glass and carefully crush them 8 times with a muddle to release the flavours. Don’t overdo this as it can release the bitterness from the lime’s peel.

– Add half of the crushed ice to the glass (you can crush ice cubes by placing them on a tea towel, folding the corners securely and smashing them with a rolling pin), followed by Papagayo Rum and a splash of sparkling water.

– Stir lightly with a spoon and top with the rest of the ice, a spring of mint and a lime wedge.

Watermelon & Basil Mojito

🕑 5 minutes

  • serves 1
  • 50ml Papagayo Organic Rum
  • 2 Watermelon Slices
  • 6 Basil Leaves
  • 2 Lime Wedges
  • 2 tsp Agave Nectar / Simple Syrup
  • 1 tbsp Sparkling Water
  • Crushed Ice

– Remove the rind and seeds from the watermelon and puree in a food processor. Run it through a sieve so it’s a smooth as possible. You can skip this step if you prefer.

– Place the basil leaves and lime wedges in a glass and gently crush with a muddle 8 times to release the flavours. Add half of the crushed ice followed by the agave, watermelon puree, sparkling water and Papagayo Rum. The mix gently to combine all flavours.

– Top with the rest of the ice and garnish with a watermelon wedge and sprig of basil.

Passionfruit Mojito Royale

🕑 5 minutes

  • serves 1
  • 50ml Papagayo Organic Rum
  • 100ml Champagne
  • 1 1/2 Passion Fruit
  • 12 Mint Leaves
  • 2 Lime Wedges
  • 2 tsp Agave Nectar / Simple Syrup
  • Crushed Ice

– Place the lime wedges, mint and scoop out the passion fruit seeds in a glass and gently crush them together 8 times with a muddle.

– Add half the crushed ice followed by Papagayo Rum and agave, mix gently with a spoon to combine the flavours.

– Top up the glass with champagne and garnish with the rest of the ice, half a passion fruit and sprig of mint.
