The Great Outdoors: Luxury Retreats

by Julieta Lucca

Connecting with nature is underrated and we all should be doing it every now and again.

I'm not the most outdoorsy person. In fact, if you want to piss me off, put me in a tent in the middle of the Lake District.

We all have our favourite holiday destinations, and camping or “glamping” (it doesn’t make a difference to me) is not for me.

On the other hand, I’m all about a luxury retreat. Give me a bathtub overlooking the English countryside and I’m in. For those who identify with this statement, keep on reading…

From dream holiday to weekend break, some of the best retreats around the world:

Treehotel in Sweden

Featured is countless design outlets, the treehotel not only transpires Scandinavia but it’s perhaps the ultimate holiday experience. Located in Harads, a 70 minute flight from Stockholm, Treehotel offers six unique tree rooms suspended from trees. With beautiful views of the river Lule, Treehotel also offers incomparable¬†experiences like Northern Lights Photography, Dog Sled Tours, Ice Dining and Nordic Ski Tours among some other activities.

This holiday doesn’t come cheap but it’s a one of a kind experience.

Indonesian Beauty in Bali

The Viceroy Hotel in Bali, is located in the mountain foothill of the village Ubud. With only 25 rooms, the Viceroy is an extremely scenic and tranquil hotel, perfect for a one-in-a-lifetime retreat. It doesn’t get more natural than being surrounded by Indonesia’s rich tropical flora and fauna. You can also enjoy the hotel’s beautiful infinity pool overlooking the mountains and the Petanu River George. Access to the spa and gym are included.

Traveling peak times to Indonesia are April to October.

Booking through Small Luxury Hotels of The World is easy, and you can get a free room upgrade if you book as a member of The Club (by signing up to the site).

Eolo in Argentina's Patagonia

If you are looking for a secluded spot in the middle of nowhere to indulge in some of the most beautiful scenery in the world, this is your place. Eolo is a unique lodge located in La Anita valley, half an hour away from El Calafate, half way to the Perito Moreno glacier. The hotel has less than 20 rooms and does not allow children under the age of 12.

This is the perfect destination for those who love being in touch with nature. Just look at those views. There are numerous different activities and experiences offered by the hotel which can be booked separately as part of your stay.

Having visited Patagonia when I was little, I am slightly biased when recommending it but ask anyone who’s also been and you’ll understand why everyone loves it so much.

The Miller's House at Froe in Cornwall

This gorgeous Georgian property located in the Roseland Peninsula in Cornwall is the perfect retreat for a small group of friends or family. There are many towns at just a small ride from the house with restaurants and coffee shops you can try. The interiors are beautiful and cosy and the views of the small lake and short distance walk from the beach make this cottage the perfect retreat in the traditional English countryside.
